If you’re anywhere near Holland this weekend and looking for a party, put on your orange shirt and make sure to head to the Queen’s Day celebrations held throughout the country. The festivities have gotten so big that even London has come up with its own (Dutch) Queen’s Day – held on April 17 at Trafalgar Square and accommodating some 70,000 party-goers.
However, Amsterdam is the place to be this April 30th as the city is transformed into a launching pad for the festivities, starting with Koninginnenacht (Queen’s Night) on April 29th and culminating the day after (Queen’s Day), when the party spreads to the canals, the streets and every surface allowed. Some 500,000 people make it to Amsterdam for the live DJs music, the flea markets and the orange pride.
